Pelizzari Studio signed the Garden Annex project, an intervention that expands and enriches the Rastrello Boutique Hotel in Panicale, Umbria. The new wing, created from an adjacent historic palace long uninhabited, doubles the number of suites and establishes a dialogue with the main building through the historic gardens, creating both architectural and landscape continuity. The project is rooted in respect for the original structure: the grand staircase and the generously sized suites have been preserved and enhanced, while each room has been personalized with textures, iconic design pieces, and modernist furniture, giving every suite a unique identity.
At street level, within the ancient walls, a bistrot dedicated to Umbrian specialties has been introduced, furnished with reinterpretations of traditional trattoria elements in a contemporary key. A small spa, carved out of the former cellars once used for oil storage, offers an intimate and evocative atmosphere, with original vaulted ceilings brought back to life through meticulous restoration. Spaces dedicated to yoga and meditation open onto quiet glimpses of the village, with dusty hues echoing the tones of the surrounding bricks and pietra serena. The breakfast area, located next to the main staircase, connects seamlessly with the garden beyond, thanks to a large corten and glass door.
The suspended garden, overlooking Lake Trasimeno, becomes the scenic heart of the hotel: a timeless space, capable of evoking the landscapes painted by Perugino. The entire project follows the concept of visual continuity, with fluid transitions between interior and exterior, achieving a balance that integrates historical memory with contemporary comfort.
