Towards a 4.0 hospital

The synergy between universities and companies is laying the foundations for the future of the Healthcare sector and answers the question of what the hospitals of the future will look like in the light of the current situation. This is how the Joint Research Platform Healthcare Infrastructures was born, led by Politecnico di Milano – Department ABC Design & Health Lab and Fondazione Politecnico di Milano. A platform of excellence for technological innovation aimed at companies and institutions in the field of healthcare.

The Joint Research Platform Healthcare Infrastructures aims at facilitating the discussion on the construction of scenarios concerning the technological evolution shared between the Politecnico di Milano and the companies of the sector, dialoguing with all the relevant actors and institutions of the sector. Mario Cucinella Architects, Philips, Politecnica Ingegneria e Architettura, Eredi Rossini Domenico, Siemens SpA and Tecnicaer Engineering are the companies that have joined the platform as platinum members and will contribute, together with the university, to the realisation of highly challenging multidisciplinary projects, encouraging collaboration between universities, businesses and public administrations.

Among the objectives of the JRP Healthcare is the transition of healthcare from an exclusively hospital-centric model to a sustainable user-centric model, embedded in a physical and digital territorial network. The Covid-19 has highlighted the criticalities of Italian hospitals in terms of obsolescence of infrastructure, the project nevertheless highlights the intention to move towards a prototype of hospital 4.0 where the person is at the centre of the system.
