The gestures of time – New exhibition by Triennale Milano

The second design exhibition created by Triennale Milano entitled “The gestures of time” opens in the Milan Linate Air Terminal. This second exhibition appointment for the Linate air terminal is dedicated to the measurement of time in all its dimensions. Curated by Marco Sammicheli, Director of the Italian Design Museum of Triennale Milano, the exhibition tells the story of the physical space of time and its material equipment through those objects in the permanent collection of the Italian Design Museum of Triennale Milano that measure and announce, through metaphor, the passing of time.

On the occasion of the renovation and enlargement of the Milan Linate airport in June 2021, Triennale Milano presented a selection of pieces from its permanent collection created by great masters of design and architecture – from Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni to Roberto Sambonet, from Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper to Bruno Munari – to remind passengers that travel is an invitation to knowledge. A catalog of artefacts that are very different from each other but all united by the common denominator of time measured, experienced, awaited and imagined. The objects chosen represent a wide range of Italian design with profiles of well-known designers and figures who have engaged in research, women and men from different eras, many of them still in full activity. Very different technologies, materials, volumes, colors and types of works to tell the theme of time.

The showcases host four thematic areas: the time of the pause meant as rest, vice and vision; the time of the dream, of the escape, of the exoticism; the time of the work, of the mathematical measurement, of the relationships; the time of the interiors, of the intimacy. Ettore Sottsass’s work Carlton will continue to be exhibited in the air terminal hall to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of Memphis, a movement of design and planning thought founded in Milan in 1981. An exhibition where time is embodied in the different representations of great designers and on the transformation of an abstract concept into matter. Moreover, every six months Triennale will present a new selection of works.
