Rockbank station illuminated by PERFORMANCE iN LIGHTING
The Rockbank railway station has been refurbished as part of the Regional Rail Revival project to upgrade the Ballarat line, a project strongly supported by the Victorian Government to provide modern infrastructure and efficient services to the growing population of Melbourne‘s suburban communities.
The reconstruction project included the building of two new longer platforms to accommodate the six-car VLocity trains, a futuristic pedestrian overpass linking the platforms, a new 350-space car park as well as bus and taxi stands, bike storage areas, unloading zones and a totally improved lighting system.
In railway infrastructures of this type, lighting is particularly important to ensure proper visibility and greater safety at night and at times when fewer people are passing through. PERFORMANCE iN LIGHTING was chosen as a partner for this project and, after a thorough lighting design in cooperation with Opal Lighting Systems and Eye Lighting Australia Pty Ltd, supplied professional THEOS series luminaires to illuminate the large car park area, the overpass access ramps and the train access platforms, providing different illuminance values depending on the area. For the transit areas, NORMA+ series moisture-proof luminaires have been installed to meet the most stringent safety standards for public places.
Overall, the station now provides better access for buses, better shelter for passengers, more security during transit, and has been made more accessible, making it much easier for travellers to move between the tracks and around the station with lifts and ramps for people with mobility aids or wheelchairs.
