Chinese firm MAD Architects, a pioneer of futuristic and organic design based on advanced technologies, founded by architect Ma Yansong, is nearing completion of the Yabuli Entrepreneurs Convention Centre, commissioned by the Yabuli China Entrepreneurs Forum (Yabuli CEF), one of China’s most influential business organisations.
The new facility will be the permanent home of the annual summits, a landmark that could bring the entrepreneurial spirit of Yabuli CEF members (including representatives from Alibaba, Lenovo, Xiaomi and New Oriental).
MAD imagined a building embedded in the mountain forest, a place of strong vitality and creativity to embody the boldness and wisdom of entrepreneurs.
Nestled in the mountainous terrain of Yabuli, MAD’s design evokes the concept of a tent sitting at the foot of a mountain, its soft, curved, silvery white roof echoing the snowy hills that surround it.
During the day, a large glass skylight allows light to penetrate the interior spaces, while at night, the same skylight allows the warm glow of the building to illuminate the cold mountain forest, evoking the image of a bonfire around which entrepreneurs share ideas, thoughts and stories.
Inside, a warm and soft atmosphere has been created through a mixture of wooden walls and natural light, while outside, a public plaza and glass walkway allow a connection between architecture and nature.
The building will not only be a conference venue, but will also house an exhibition hall, meeting rooms and a television room, offering mixed-use spaces for events and corporate training.
The venue will also be open to the public and will be a valuable tool to showcase and explore the world of Chinese business.
Reflecting on the project, the Chairman of Yabuli CEF said: ” After over forty years of the ‘reform and opening-up policy’, Yabuli Entrepreneurs’ Congress Center is now a spiritual sanctuary that Chinese entrepreneurs are and will be in awe of”.
Having been funded and founded by 50 members of Yabuli CEF, the property rights of the building belong to the NGO (non-governmental organization), allowing the venue to become a valuable social treasure. Once completed, the Yabuli Entrepreneurs’ Convention Centre will mark an important milestone in the journey of Chinese entrepreneurship, where “the Davos of China” can become “the Yabuli of the world”.
