It was Wall&decò in 2013 that signed a real breakthrough in the field of wallpaper, namely the first collection for bathrooms and showers. The decorative potential of wallpaper finally enters environments that are no longer considered secondary or service-related, but spaces to be lived in and enhanced. Already the previous year, Christian Benini, founder and creative director of Wall&decò had started research on this topic: “The market demanded an alternative to tiles and resin, the only solutions available at that time. The former did not allow for continuous surfaces; the latter proved to be too delicate to handle over time – a new covering was needed, capable of withstanding even cleaning ladies… In other words, the market demanded a product that would guarantee continuity of surfaces and strong resistance to the daily use of anti-limescale, sanitising and particularly aggressive detergents“.
The intuition was visionary but required the development of a solution with new technical and aesthetic performance, specifically designed for wet environments that were complex to manage – given the coexistence of taps, shower panels and sanitary ware. That year, Wall&decò took up the challenge and worked on the formulation of WET, a product that would give life to the first collection and that would immediately revolutionise the way bathroom walls were enhanced. Macro images, abstractions, figurative elements and optical geometries also arrive on bathroom walls, opening up unprecedented creative and customization possibilities.
Having begun this journey with great passion, Wall&decò continues to conduct research and work on product development, so much so that in 2014 it is perfected and patented. Its name evolves and becomes WET System: the result is a totally waterproof coating that provides surface continuity, water tightness, adhesion ability even after immersion in an alkaline environment, excellent resistance to cracking and of course, also to the action of detergents and cleaning products.
WET System confers enormous design flexibility and makes possible unprecedented effects in both the largest and the smallest environments. Great decorative value is combined with and exceptional technical performance, becoming over the years the perfect solution in both residential and contract settings.
WET System is, in fact, a real system, consisting of various components – primer, specific glue, fiberglass fabric and protective finishes – which, together, reach a total thickness of only 1.5 mm: this allows rapid renovation work with limited construction site residues and allows installation even on pre-existing surfaces, such as bathroom and kitchen tiles.
Thanks to these technical qualities that make the coating very durable and pliable, WET System does not remain confined to the bathroom for long, and its designer coatings soon invade kitchens, spas, gyms, swimming pools, and medical and dental offices.
This year WET System turns 10 and boasts the covering of 23,600 showers in 81 countries, crossing from Mongolia to Costa Rica, Australia to Finland.
