From 23rd November to 1st December 2024 Milan Drawing Week will take place, a widespread exhibition of modern and contemporary drawing realised by Collezione Ramo.
The fourth edition of Milano Drawing Week presents a 13-stage itinerary dedicated to drawing, including contemporary artists and masters of the last century: for nine days, works on paper will be the stars of the city, in a series of exhibitions in the museums and galleries of Milan’s urban network.
This year’s side events include the exhibition ‘Visions of the Future: Avant-Garde Architecture’, organised by Ceramica Sant’Agostino in collaboration with Platform Architecture and Design.
The exhibition will open on 25th November at the Ceramica Sant’Agostino flagship store located at Corso Garibaldi 95 in Milan and will remain on display until 1st December.
The exhibition ‘Visions of the Future: Avant-Garde Architectures’ aims to investigate the most experimental and visionary frontiers of contemporary architectural design, exploring how the ideas of the great protagonists of the sector can shape our tomorrow. Through a series of drawings on paper, created with mixed techniques by eleven leading authors, the exhibition offers a reflection on the evolutionary potential of architecture in response to global challenges and changing social and environmental needs.
The drawings offer a mosaic of heterogeneous visions, ranging from the imagination of futuristic cities to floating architecture, suspended between heaven and earth. The proposed architectural landscapes evoke worlds in which technology merges with nature, creating spaces that stimulate not only an intellectual but also an emotional response. Some projects explore bold and unusual forms, capable of surprising and inspiring, others focus on collective memory, integrating historical and cultural elements in a contemporary context.
Hand drawing, chosen as the main medium of representation, becomes a tool for critical reflection, reaffirming the importance of the artistic gesture as the first act of design. ‘Visions of the Future: Avant-Garde Architectures’ is not limited to presenting utopian projects, but is an invitation to rethink our way of inhabiting the world, to reconsider our living spaces and their potential, and to imagine, together with the architects present here, a tomorrow where creativity and responsibility intertwine to build a brighter, more conscious and sustainable future.
The exhibition is curated by Simona Finessi – the creator of many cultural initiatives in the field of project culture and already curator of several exhibitions – and involves eleven authors belonging to some of the most important names in architecture on the Italian scene:
- Alessia Maggio – AMAART
- Laura Andreini – Archea Associati
- Paolo Brambilla – Calvi Brambilla & Partners
- Keith Pillow – DAAA Haus
- Giuseppe Varsavia – De.Tales
- Gaetano Auricchio – The Prism
- Antonio Rodriguez – Matteo Thun & Partners
- Caterina Betti – NOA
- Filippo Pagliani – Park Associati
- Monica Tricario – Piuarch
- Massimo Roj – CMR Project
The Milano Drawing Week, sponsored by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Milan, also offers side events such as performances, concerts, sketchmob and educational workshops, further enriching the cultural experience of visitors.
