An expression of Milan’s dynamism and eclectic and functional design, the new 4-star Urban Hive hotel, located along the iconic Corso Garibaldi, aims to position itself as a cosmopolitan destination for an audience of international travelers. Born from the restyling of the historic Carlyle Brera hotel, the redevelopment project-which involved the concept, common areas and 97 rooms and suites spread over 7 floors-was entrusted to the architectural firm Vudafieri-Saverino Partners.
Tiziano Vudafieri and Claudio Saverino‘s concept resulted in an informal place full of color and personality. The choices for the interior design reinterpret the tradition of “Milanese-style” design in a contemporary way.
Dynamic and intimate at the same time, the Urban Hive has been conceived to turn into a social hub, in a continuous exchange between guests and citizens thanks to numerous services that open to the public: from multifunctional coworking areas to meeting rooms, from cultural events to business lunches and aperitifs, with small tables also positioned under the arcades of Corso Garibaldi.
On the ground floor comfortable colorful sofas on a light oak parquet floor, soft lighting, wooden bookcases, pop objects, graphics and illustrations make the environment warm and welcoming, creating an elegant and relaxed atmosphere.
One of the key concepts of Vudafieri-Saverino Partners’ intervention is the way the co-working spaces were designed. The hotel adopted a circular view of the use of common areas, so as to enhance the surface to give different uses throughout the day.
The mezzanine dedicated to breakfast, for example, after 11 a.m. is transformed into a coworking space for the city’s many startups seeking places of contamination.
Of particular impact and conceptual depth was the redesign of the hotel’s 97 rooms and suites with their sophisticated atmosphere. The painstaking color study resulted in the choice of three different palettes that alternate on the room floors – terracotta pink, mint green and light blue – and contrast in the rooms with Prussian blue, Persia orange and Amber yellow curtains, respectively.
The furnishings were designed by the architects: from beds to wooden headboards with metal inserts, bedside tables to bookcases and shelving.
The goal of Vudafieri-Saverino Partners was to create a lifestyle facility, integrated with the context, to define a new overlook in the heart of Milan that could offer experiences and where, through architecture and design, travelers could feel part of a local community.
