THE NEW TOGETHER 2023

On 30th July 2023 ended THE NEW TOGETHER, the initiative that PLATFORM architecture and design organised in Venice, at the prestigious Scuola Grande della Misericordia, with the aim of investigating, through the projects of 140 architecture studios on show and coming from all over the world, how the design of spaces is evolving to meet the needs of the new times we are living in.

The opening event, which took place on 19th May 2023, was a huge success with the audience. The architects, designers and players from the world of real estate and the design industry who attended the vernissage exceeded 500 people.
Presenter of the evening – journalist Paola Pierotti – invited the main protagonists of the exhibition on stage: the curators – Luca Molinari and Simona Finessi – together with the artistic director of the exhibition project – Angelo Dadda – and the architecture studio Superluna, which designed and realised the exhibition layout, represented by the founders Luca Sartori and Marco Bonfatti Paini. Finally, the artist Jacopo Ascari, introduced to the public present an illustration created ad hoc for the exhibition, also narrated through a ‘work in progress’ video of the work.

On 20th May 2023, the “Jam Session between Architecture and Music” took place, an evening that welcomed architect Giorgio Palù – Founder of the Arkpabi design studio – and Paolo Fresu – famous musician and trumpet player. The guests dialogued with Luca Molinari, giving rise to a magnificent chat based on the mingling of these two arts. The evening ended with an exciting musical performance, during which Paolo Fresu and Teofil Milenkovic – a young violin virtuoso – delighted the numerous guests with a poetic musical Jam Session.

In the afternoon of 21st May, curator Simona Finessi welcomed architect Rossella DeStefani – Partner of the architectural firm DeAmicis Architetti – and Matteo Gerli – Founder of Enjoy Company – on stage. During the forum entitled “Urban Metamorphosis of Sports Centres”, they discussed how architecture can play an important role in the regeneration of municipally owned sports facilities.
Afterwards, architect Darryl Chen – partner and head of urban design at Studio Hawkins\Brown – presented a series of key projects in and around the former site of the 2012 Olympics, which are helping to transform the city into one of London’s biggest regeneration projects.
During the evening, the event entitled “Regeneration and Restoration Forum. The Architectural Enhancement of Cultural Heritage“, providing numerous interesting insights into the topic of recovery and renovation of existing architecture. Numerous guests took turns on stage, namely: Hon. Federico Mollicone, President of the Culture, Science and Education Commission of the Chamber of Deputies; Dr. Alberto Rui, President of Confrestauro; Arch. Adriano Piazza, Confrestauro Venezia; Dr. Giuseppe Venier, CEO of Umana Spa; Arch. Tommaso Tommasi, Tommasi Architecture; architects Isabelle Toussaint and Matteo Robiglio, Tra Architecture; Arch. Francesco Montaguti, Hawkins\Brown.

From 23rd to the 26th of June, the studios involved in The New Together Exhibition were called upon to tell their vision in first person during the PLATFORM ARCHITECTURE FESTIVAL. The designers animated four days of debate and confrontation with the aim of giving life to a real active platform in which to collect the visions, the points in common and of contrast of a new way of being together, through architecture and the heterogeneous languages that the Exhibition identifies.

From 2nd to 16th July, the large Venetian location of Casa Platform hosted the Manifesto dell’Abitare Architecture Collective, which exhibited the projects of the 24 Think Tank studios, in order to give their own interpretation of the Manifesto, within a pavilion created ad hoc by Studio di Architettura Marco Ciarlo Associati.
On 18th July, the presentation took place of the documentary entitled “Dalla Parte del Mare” (On the Side of the Sea), realised by Massimo Gasole and produced by Sky Survey System, which recounts a journey along the coast of Sardinia and its architecture. The event was presented by Marco Cadinu, Full Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Cagliari.
In the afternoon, the spaces of the Scuola Grande della Misericordia welcomed “Fundamenta“, the photographic exhibition by architect Aldo Amoretti representing his interpretation of architecture, immersed in the context of which it is part. The exhibition – curated by Giovanni Menna and Olga Starodubova with installation by Studio di Architettura Marco Ciarlo Associati – is divided into nine pairs of photographs of works by authors such as Zumthor, Kollhoff, Pawson, Märkli, each of them called upon to express one of the nine themes identified among those considered to be the foundations of architecture.

The exhibition THE NEW TOGETHER was open to the public from 20th May to 30th July 2023 and witnessed a surprising participation by the public: architects, designers, experts in the field, students and curious people from all over the world enthusiastically visited the spaces designed by Sansovino, for a total of over 44,000 visitors, in a continuous crescendo of interest.
Over 500 architects, on the other hand, were involved in the various exhibitions and collateral activities, and actively participated in the rich programme of initiatives.
