Delvaux – the oldest luxury leather goods house in the world – has opened a new Parisian boutique, the fourth in the French capital. The shop is located in Rue Saint Honoré, one of the most famous streets for luxury shopping.
As always, Delvaux has chosen an exceptional setting: a charming historic building just a few steps from the Jardin des Tuileries and the elegant Place Vendôme. Once again, Vudafieri-Saverino Partners‘ project has made the shop unique. Since 2012, the Milan-based studio has designed the worldwide concept of Delvaux stores, describing the brand in an ever-changing way, in relation to the characteristics and culture of each city: from Milan to Hong Kong, from London to New York.
Spread over 100 square metres, the interiors of the Rue Saint Honoré boutique reflect the building’s heritage, combining Delvaux’s “beauty” with Parisian style.
The visual and material theme that accompanies the gaze is the use of a series of antique doors, which decorate the walls and provide a backdrop for the display of the products. Rare antiques, different in age and decoration, but all belonging to a French style, tell a story of research, solidity, passion for the gesture well done, and a tribute to the city that hosts the boutique. Used to frame the Maison’s precious bags, the doors represent a new evolution of the wall panelling that has always characterized the Delvaux concept and that finds a new reinterpretation in every boutique.
Inside the shop, furnishing elements made to design by Vudafieri-Saverino Partners alternate with a selection of design and antique pieces that together form an eclectic style: a fabric of subtle formal balances.
Among these stand out a majestic antique table in grey Sant’Anna marble, characterised by a white floral motif, while in the heart of the boutique stands an exceptional 18th century golden ceremonial cabinet.
In this project too, Tiziano Vudafieri and Claudio Saverino intended to work on the chromatic and tactile quality of the wall covering finishes, using special plasters and stuccoes – by the Italian artist Filippo Falaguasta – to give warm tones in dialogue with the woodwork.
As soon as visitors pass through the entrance door, they encounter the Custom Bar: a counter designed as a place where guests can experience the customisation of Delvaux pieces. The industrial-style pendant lamps project an enthralling glow on the top, while behind it stands a full-height bookcase containing the Maison’s accessories.
The homage to Paris and France, as well as the highly original use of antique doors, can be found in the selection of materials that characterise the boutique: the Pierre de Bourgogne was chosen for the floors, while the Pierre de Taille, which characterises the finishes, like the details of the bookcase, celebrates the facades of the historic buildings in the French capital. These are skilfully combined with materials typical of the Delvaux concept, such as pale gold, nickel velour and burnished brass.
