The Kinii

The “the Kinii” Ski-Lodge, “the falcon’s nest” in the ancient indian local language, is an attempt to reinterpret the concept of a mountain chalet in a contemporary and eco-compatible way. The project area is located at almost 9000 feet above the sea level, in Powder Mountain, Eden, UT.

The unicity of the location was a challenge in terms of design since the spirit of the place is a strong presence widespread on every stone, rock and animal and needed to be kept into account. The Kinii was therefore conceived as an “off-track” refuge. The shape of the building follows the grade, the facade set back and allows a design of terraces covered and protected from the bad weather. The home is subdivide into two blocks: one for guests and children while the other one hosts the master bedroom and other private rooms reserved to the owners.

In between the two volumes is a double height living space with staircase. This is a distribution space that connect horizontally the lounge living room with the kitchen/dining area while vertically leads to the night area at the upper floor.
