As part of Milano Design City 2021, the design week sponsored by the City of Milan, which aims to stimulate recovery of the furniture industry during this critical post-pandemic period, Flos is delighted to participate in the Designer’s Week initiative (12-23rd April) to present all the new lighting designs and solutions from the Spring 2021 Decorative and Outdoor catalogues. The new collections will be exhibited in visually striking displays at the brands two Milanese spaces, the historic flagship store and the Flos Professional Space at Corso Monforte 9 and 15 respectively.
Flos will present the new Decorative products for Spring 2021 as featured in Issue 3 of the exclusive Flos Stories– the biannual release from Flos published under the creative direction of Apartamento Studios.
The new products include WireLine, an ingenious piece that sits on the boundary between artistic expression and the most cultured industrial design, created by Formafantasma for Flos; the Bellhop Floor lamp by Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby, which provides a soft and discreet presence but exudes personality; rand the refined Coordinates Wall model which completes the collection of the same name designed by Michael Anastassiades, adorning interior spaces with timeless geometrical beauty and precision.
Finally, 15 years after its creation, the iconic and timeless Skygarden suspension lamp by Marcel Wanders is presented in a new Small version, allowing the magic of his secret garden to infiltrate countless new spaces, even those of a smaller size.
These extraordinary items are joined by a new series of sophisticated finishes and unusual colour options for some of the most iconic products in the Flos catalogue, such as Jasper Morrison’s Smithfield, now available in original red and bright green, and Aim from brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, available in three new elegant, anodised finishes.
The Flos Professional Space will present the new Outdoor Collection for Spring 2021, with entire families of coordinated lighting elements which all combine cutting-edge technology, such as new anti-corrosion treatments, with extensive formal research. Not only are they designed for people and to offer the utmost visual comfort, Flos Outdoor products are also increasingly attentive to the environment and the natural rhythms of flora and fauna. Visitors, immersed in a setting that recreates the beautiful atmosphere of a night-time garden, will be able to experiment with a variety of lighting scenarios, controlled by a digital device.
Brand new Flos Outdoor products include Pointbreak by Piero Lissoni, a family that offers powerful technology and a minimal but sophisticated design, not least its original supercircle shape; the poetic In Vitro Unplugged lantern, a rechargeable battery powered version of the series of the same name by Philippe Starck, characterised by dematerialised lighting elements that magically conceal the light source within; and still more new models and finishes for collections such as Mile, the important high-tech light programme from Antonio Citterio; the decorative floral family Caule by Patricia Urquiola and new external models and colours of the sculptural Captain Flint floor light by Michael Anastassiades, now also available as an elegant Wall version.
Visitors to the Milanese Design Week will also be treated to an exclusive preview of the video interview with Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec given to Flos from their Paris studio. The talented French brothers will discuss the genesis and characteristics of their last creation for Flos, the sinuous and sophisticated modular system Belt, which, with its natural hand worked leather, breaks down once and for all the boundary between technical and decorative in the new lighting systems and solutions proposed by Flos Architectural.
Clients, architects and lighting designers can easily plan a visit via the digital Book an Appointment platform available on flos.com or connect remotely with a Flos brand ambassador, all in total compliance with Covid-19 safety measures.
