Soft Architecture at Expo 2020 Dubai

On Thursday 24 February, the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will host the event: “Soft Architecture. An adaptive process for urban regeneration in the age for pandemic“. The theme will be soft architecture as a tool for redesigning the cities of the future, through the testimony of i-Mesh. The young company has created a homonym high-tech, sustainable fabric, used to cover the walkways of the Universal Exposition. An innovative product, which has generated a soft architecture allowing to design versatile, temporary and transportable structures.

The event will open with the world premiere screening of the docu-film “Softness. i-Mesh, designing the city”, directed by Cristina Colli and Francesca Molteni. It will then continue with a talk on architecture in post-pandemic cities, promoted by the University of Camerino, in collaboration with Marche Region, Marche-Land of Excellence, i-Mesh and Marche Chamber of Commerce. At the center of the meeting will be the perspectives of change offered to cities by soft architecture. The pandemic has radically changed the way we live our cities and the organization of urban spaces will have to be completely redesigned in function of more fluid, more flexible, more inclusive environments. Both events can be followed on Thursday 24 February from 9.15 am, Italian time, in live streaming on the Youtube channel “Italy Expo 2020”.
“What’s soft? Available, perhaps? Open, welcoming, suitable, close, adherent, empathetic? Soft is a vision of the world, a light and circular look, impermanent, kind, systemic”.With these words begins “Softness. i-Mesh, designing the city”  an interweaving of stories and threads that show a new vision of design made necessary and urgent by the climate and health crisis. A tale of many voices that has as its protagonists some of the most important exponents of the world of architecture, design and art: from Kengo Kuma to Werner Sobek, from Edoardo Tresoldi to Ico Migliore, from Benedetta Tagliabue to Lorena Alessio. Everyone is called upon to imagine a new future for urban spaces, between mobility and extended digitalization, new construction technologies and comfortable materials, renewable energy and reuse. A journey in which interviews and images of projects and places follow one another: Barcelona, Dubai, Milan, Numana in the Marche region, Rome, Stuttgart, Tokyo, in the sign of a deep connection between communities, objects and spaces.
