The year 2025 is just around the corner and, as usual, Sigma Coatings, a brand of PPG Architectural Coatings Italy, has unveiled the colour of the year: it is Amethyst Shadow PPG1046-7.
The creation of the palette that will dominate the year to come is the result of teamwork (the team in charge of it is made up of more than 600 people) and the new key concept is Kinetic, which takes the place of Limitless, the protagonist of 2024. Kinetic stems from the continuous sense of movement and change, almost frenetic: from the ultra-digital revolution, to climate crises, to global geo-political conditions. Not surprisingly, Kinetic means ‘arising from movement, requiring movement to achieve effects’. Today, movement, which can mean adaptation, learning, is a necessity in the age in which we find ourselves, almost an obligation.
Amethyst Shadow PPG1046-7 is therefore the fruit of this continuous movement and is a colour that can change with the light conditions. In well-lit rooms, the colour appears light and opaque, while in darker spaces it takes on a deep, almost plum-like hue. This chameleon-like quality makes Amethyst Shadow a truly magical colour, sometimes appearing violet and at other times reminiscent of burgundy.
Its versatility also makes it applicable to all design themes precisely because it can take on different values and connotations depending on what it is combined with. When used tone-on-tone, together with furniture and home accessories in a similar shade, it can create a cosy, enchanting atmosphere. Combined with neutral, lighter colours, it provides a simple yet elegant touch – the perfect colour to make home environments cosy. Amethyst Shadow creates spaces that convey peace and a sense of homeliness. In the bedroom, for example, it can promote a good night’s sleep, essential for daily well-being.

Amethyst Shadow wants to be just that: the means of giving value to individual choices and stimulating confidence in one’s own potential’.
The 4 palettes developed under the Kinetic concept
The gobale colour theme ‘Kinetic’ consists of four different colour palettes: Extra Celestial, Bio-Fuse, Artificial and Earth and Archive and a palette of 40 shades.
Extra Celestial
It represents a design aesthetic that embodies colours, materials and finishes in line with the search for and rediscovery of inner confidence and a new personal spirituality. The palette, with the clear contrasts between dark and light shades and the variety of blue and violet tones, is an explicit reference to the cosmic universe precisely because it represents the unlimited expansion of one’s own potential. Here the colour of the year is grafted with elegance, confidence and balance to offer a note of luxury and sophistication.
Bio-Fuse
Offers a glimpse into a future world in which scientific advances safeguard people and the planet. It represents a design aesthetic that combines innovation and sustainability. In this palette, the relationship between man, nature and science is almost symbiotic and the collection presents itself as a hybrid of soothing, almost unusual colours.
Art-I-ficial
This is the palette that abandons conventional approaches and represents a design aesthetic that embraces diversity and individuality. Reality, fantasy and fiction are mixed with the ability to discern what is real from what is not.
Earth & Archive
Themes of nature merge with those of luxury, thus connecting to the preservation of the planet and eco-conscious practices. This palette represents a design aesthetic that encourages responsible consumption and environmental awareness.
The four 2025 palettes are conceived with the intention of translating into inspirations and suggestions applicable to the design world. With this in mind, they must necessarily be combined with the conscious choice of a functional product for the spaces in which they will be applied.
