From 18 to 23 April, the 61st edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano will take place at Fiera Milano Rho.
In this “return to normality” come the three important novelties of this edition the single exhibition level, with the exhibitors of the upper pavilions (8-12, 16-20) relocated in the lower ones to simplify, improve and enhance the fruition and the visiting experience; the new layout of Euroluce, which, from being stand-centric, will bring man and the fruition of the Exhibition back to the centre, thanks to a better connected ring-shaped route; the cultural component, will be integrated into the spaces of the biennial of light through interdisciplinary and experiential content, ranging from architecture to art with exhibitions, talks, workshops and site-specific installations.
The April edition of the biennial of light (Euroluce, pavilions 9-11 and 13-15), now in its 31st year, will be renewed in its exhibition layout, redesigned by the Lombardini22 studio to guarantee a better connection between the four pavilions, simplify the visit itinerary – which will become an irregular ring and take inspiration from the roadways of traditional Italian villages – and, at the same time, increase the visibility of the exhibitors, ensuring everyone has an adequate space. ‘The city of Lights’, will be the concept and thematic thread of the biennial. Power of imagination and concreteness of vision will characterise the interdisciplinary cultural content curated by Beppe Finessi, which will make Euroluce a happy laboratory of emotions and knowledge.
Thanks to the precise and intelligent intervention of Formafantasma, the heart of the biennial will be Aurore, a large square and arena for immersive and reflective experiences and a place dedicated to various talks. The studio also designed twelve Constellations, architectural interludes that will host exhibitions in the exhibition curated by Finessi along the entire exhibition route. These are the main exhibitions.
Massimo Curzi will curate and set up the personal exhibition of Hélène Binet, one of the most significant authors of contemporary photography, showing, through an original selection of images, how her work investigates the relationship between natural light and architecture.
Martina Sanzarello will be curating and setting up the exhibition, which pays homage to the classic incandescent light bulb.
Curated by Matteo Pirola will be a roundup of “artificial stars”: the luminous devices that today’s “designer-astronomers” are investigating, objects that present luminous happenings, coloured auroras set up by the From outer Space studio.
Michele Calzavara, on the other hand, will be the curator of an exhibition of interior architecture images where the protagonist is artificial light.
Finally, Maurizio Nannucci, one of the most powerful interpreters of artificial light in contemporary art, will realise a large site-specific installation, a long neon light inscription: You can image the opposite that ideally exhorts to “imagine the opposite”, to a creative, curious and virtuous doing.
More than 550 will be the protagonists of the 24th SaloneSatellite, which will find its new but natural location within the pavilions of Euroluce.
This year’s theme will be “Design Schools – Universities / BUILDING THE (IM)POSSIBLE. Process, Progress, Practice‘. Putting design schools and universities in the spotlight, the SaloneSatellite places the 27 participating schools and universities in a perimeter ring that embraces individual designers.
The spaces of the SaloneSatellite Award, in its 12th edition, will see two squares set aside for a special installation, with large telescopes, which will allow visitors to admire a sky reflecting the present and future of design.
The event will also pay tribute to designers and lighting companies with the special exhibition “Sate-light. 1998-2022 SaloneSatellite young designers“: set up symbolically on the border between the two spaces, it will present a large number of lamps designed by young people who have taken part in the various editions of the SaloneSatellite over the years.
A new programme of Talks, curated by Annalisa Rosso will take place in Aurore, the Euroluce arena (Pav. 13), enriching the Show with conversations and debates held by the brightest voices on the contemporary design scene. Shigeru Ban, Nao Tamura, Kjetil Trædal Thorsen and Marius Myking of Snøhetta and Andrea D’Antrassi of MAD will be questioned by as many international journalists on how innovation in lighting will improve our living tomorrow.
