Architect Mauro Todesco creates an interior design for a splendid villa on Lake Como. A secret place for a couple with three children, located in a privileged position to enjoy the lake and nature.
The project is in fact designed to create a dialogue between outside and inside, characterised by large windows overlooking the garden and windows opening onto breathtaking views.
Even the careful and essential selection of furnishings has the task of not interfering with the observer’s gaze, allowing the clients to experience the space, constantly benefiting from the lake landscape.
The architecture of the home has been completed with oak wood and pietra serena cladding, emphasising the constant connection with the natural surroundings.
From the outset, the entrance shows off the dominant characteristics of the dwelling and architectural thinking, determined by essentiality and rigour. The staircase is the pivotal element of the house, whose steps are brackets inserted between two 7-metre high wooden walls.
The entrance to the hall is a gap between a pietra serena and a wooden septum, which crosses the house vertically, serving as a container for each floor. The pietra serena septum is a continuation of the external wall, one of the many elements that manifest the ‘inside-outside’ relationship.
The furniture dialogues with the dining table and the outside, inviting seating. The volumetric essentiality of the kitchen is achieved through careful detail design and large oak-clad columns that utilise the entire available height. A door masquerades as a door leading to the service rooms. The large central island allows cooking and working facing the lake.
The refinement of the oak wood complements the recreation room by means of equipped walls, creating an environment integrated with the entire ground floor.
On the first floor, the master bedroom is articulated as a private flat, where the walk-in wardrobe plays the role of a central core leading to the different spaces: the bedroom, the study and the two couple’s bathrooms. The bedroom is emptied of any wardrobe, remaining a place devoted exclusively to rest.
The master’s bathroom has a large, suspended oak vanity unit with chests of drawers, a contemplative space clad in oak on the walls and floor, a large window with a view of the lake and, finally, the shower, defined by glass panels inserted in cracks between wood and stone.
The bathroom serving the children’s rooms is characterised by moka cream stone cladding and essential geometries such as the washbasin.
On the lower floor a long cupboard imposes itself on a 4.6m suspended bench, which runs along the front wall. A sculpture on a pedestal ends the space, enhancing the moment while waiting for the lift.
The outdoor swimming pool and cinema room, equipped with a projector and retractable curtain, houses the kitchen with cabinet doors, in continuity with a wall-mounted storage unit. Opposite, a monolithic wall clad with large slabs of pietra serena serves as a backdrop to the large Camalenda sofa, a sought-after companion with which to enjoy a good film.
