The design studio QuatroBaseStudio has completed a major renovation of a flat, located in a historical building from the early of the 20th century, overlooking the historical center of Moscow.
The interior space has been completely redesigned, divided into two functional areas: a huge bright living room and a private part with two bedrooms.
The designers, in order to meet the requirements of the clients’ requests, worked mainly with textures and materials, using a large number of original furniture items, as well as art and design collectors’ items created specifically for the project.
In working on the project, the studio sought to capture the atmosphere of the place rather than indulging a specific historical style. For example, the grilles on the balconies are inspired by historical photos of the building.
The main element of the layout was a large living room of one hundred meters, combined with the kitchen and dining room, overlooking the historical center of Moscow.
The most important feature of the layout is the total absence of corridors, thus this has created an open, fluid space, which can be traversed in its entirety in a circular movement.
From the living room, there is quick access to the master bedroom through the bathroom. And the guest room is separated by a walk-in wardrobe. There is also space for the utility room, much equipment is hidden in the niches in the wardrobes or behind wall panels.
The result is a mix of traditional architecture and original solutions. For example, in the guest room the studio created its own graphics on both the wallpaper and the headboard of the bed: the result is an unusual and original effect of a headboard that disappears into the background of the wall.
Artworks play a key role in the project.
Most of the large panels were made directly by the designers or according to their design.
The large work located in the bedroom was created by the artist Konstantin Zmogk, according to the designers’ specifications. Decorating the guest room guest room is a suspended art object by the famous artist Vasilisa Lipatova, the sculptures in the living room and bedroom are by Lev Efimov.
Noteworthy design pieces include a collectible dining table ‘Rosa Dei Venti’ by Mario Ceroli for Poltronova from 1970 purchased at auction.
