The intention, when designing these venues of the Italian brand Olivo in London, was to narrate about Sardinia (its founder’s home island) through iconographic references to the pillars of its traditional economy (handicrafts, weaving and sheep farming) and the quotation of the works of a Sardinian contemporary artist, Eugenio Tavolara – who remarkably contributed, along his whole lifetime, to bring out and safeguard the traditional culture of that island – putting on stage wide bas-reliefs finely chiselled out of natural stone (quotation of the unmistakable typical weaving technique of this island), the sea universe out of which it emerges, plastic bucolic-inspired ceramic wall encrustation or a crowd of peasants, horsemen, shepherds, wild boars and hunters which animate the restaurant’s walls, in a sort of imaginary gallery evoking Sardinian country life, telling the tale through a language which winks at contemporary design.
