A new educational and innovative forge dedicated to music, at the service of the community, the new building designed by Alvisi Kirimoto is ready to restore Camerino to a role of reference in the cultural panorama of the Marche region and beyond.
With clean, elegant lines, the building, on two levels for a total of 700 square metres, stands out for its ethereal exterior made of white sheet metal panels characterised by regular perforations of varying sizes, and its sloping volume, resting on the slope of the land and on a glass curtain marked by grey pillars, fading into its surroundings.
The north façade, visible from the street and the upper garden, is protected by panels suspended a few dozen centimetres above the ground. The two side elevations, on the other hand, betray the inclination and slope of the land. To the south, the skin enveloping the volume is broken, revealing the glassed-in ground floor behind which is the auditorium, overlooking Camerino’s historic centre. The dichromatism of the façade, given by the dark grey of the external structure and fixtures and the white of the sheet metal cladding, outlines a graceful yet resolute volume, perfectly integrated into its context and at the same time iconic in the city skyline. A shady garden and the lower square form new open spaces available to the community.
The interior design of the auditorium, aimed at enhancing the space despite its small size, is characterised by the dynamic use of materials. On the one hand the oak wood of the many surfaces and elements that make up the hall, such as the suspended panels with different inclinations, the circular strips, the panels emerging from the side wall, the backdrop entirely covered with wood and the central stage with its rotating panels. On the other hand, concrete defines the main surfaces that shape the structure, from the stoneware floor, to the back wall towards the foyer, from the exposed upper floor to the structural elements. The 180-seat auditorium is divided into three sectors, while in the side area the artists’ itinerary is set between the wooden panels on the walls and the full-height slats, which, like organ pipes, give rhythm to the space by alternating full and empty spaces.
The back wall, entirely transparent, connects the auditorium directly with the foyer, broadening the perception of space.
In the foyer, rectangular wooden slats rise from the back wall to the suspended ceiling, which slopes towards the entrance façade, following the tension defined by the volume of the white outer skin.
In addition to the lift, an orange resin staircase vertically connects the building, giving the room great liveliness and energy. A vigorous note of colour that also spreads to the upper floor, from the floor of the connective space to the access doors to the classrooms and one of the walls inside them. In the classrooms, in addition to the necessary furniture and musical instruments, there are mirrors and wooden panels that students can customise by hanging sheet music or musical compositions.
The two larger classrooms at the back house recording studios and electronic music lesson-concerts. Unlike the others, they are dark grey in colour and have special micro-perforated wooden panels on the walls to improve their acoustic performance. In all the rooms on the upper floor, circular windows positioned at two different heights allow the light filtering through the multiple perforations in the panels to enter.
