A wraparound elliptical ribbon accompanies discovery of The Middle House, the fourth of Swire Hotels’ multi-award winning The House Collective and built in the heart of Jing’an, Shanghai’s commercial district. This is a sophisticated project that expresses contemporary architecture put at the service of luxury but still in keeping with the history of the place. Here the most ancient of Chinese traditions contribute to instilling within the interiors an aura of timeless elegance through painstaking attention to detail and materials and between glazed and embossed ceramics and interplays of transparencies that become furniture and chiaroscuro effects.
Located in Dazhongli, the area undergoing changes close to the elegant Nanjing Road, The Middle House is characterized by an ‘intimate’ luxury, personalized between enveloping and ample spaces, open to the outside with terraces facing an ever-changing urban landscape. Piero Lissoni and Lissoni Architettura have intervened here in the definition of the façade system characterized by thin aluminum louvres and a vibrating cladding that together reflect and accompany the interior design conceived for the 111 rooms as well as for the restaurants, the event spaces, the pools and spa, and the 102 residences of the ‘House’ located in the two towers designed by the architects Wong and Ouyang. A meeting of universes in the name of high quality hospitality.

THE ARCHITECT, DESIGNER AND ART DIRECTOR PIERO LISSONI (1956) FOUNDED THE MILAN BASED INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIO LISSONI ASSOCIATI IN 1986 TOGETHER WITH NICOLETTA CANESI, DEVELOPING ARCHITECTURE, INTERIOR AND INDUSTRIAL DESIGN PROJECTS. TEN YEARS LATER SAW THE OPENING OF GRAPH.X, THE GRAPHICS STUDIO SPECIALIZING IN BRAND DEVELOPMENT AND CORPORATE IDENTITY. IN 2013 IT WAS THE TURN OF LISSONI ARCHITETTURA AND IN 2015 THE NEW YORK BASED LISSONI INC. WAS ESTABLISHED, TO FOLLOW THE INTERNATIONAL MARKET.
