The project is based on a traditional building constructed more than a century ago. The designers of Mjölk architects set out to create a modern home that combines the historical soul of its predecessor and the Nordic aesthetic with a touch of industrial style.
The stone basement was still in good condition and was reused as a foundation for the construction of the new house.
The main external façade was rebuilt in concrete, as it borders a busy road, thus not only improving the aesthetic presentation of the entrance but also reducing noise.
Behind the wall is a small courtyard with a view of Ještěd, which serves as a guide between the entrance, the guest house and the stairs to the area below.
The renovated parts are made of wood, while the black asphalt roof recalls the original shed, which is now used for guests.
The wood addition above the basement ceiling consists of bedrooms, an office, a bathroom with WC and an outdoor courtyard with sauna.
Large windows redefine the living space; the window on the south-west façade offers a view of the Harcov stream valley and Ještěd, while the north window shows the sauna courtyard.
A couple of steps down is the living room staircase with a fireplace and a wide staircase leading to the kitchen and dining room, which are connected to the patio. The rest of the basement is used as storage and utility room.
Every detail of the interior has been made to measure.
In the bathrooms you can find water taps, some of which have been replaced with copper pipes and garden taps.
In the bedroom there are wardrobes hanging from the ceiling, so that they do not take up too much space and keep the room, walk-in wardrobe and bathroom connected.
The kitchen counter was made on the basis of the old granite blocks from which the lower part of the house was built.
The courtyard is a pleasant space, with large trees that give the impression of being in a forest.
