Health is not only the treatment of illnesses, but the whole of care and prevention in the broadest sense, as attention to practices and lifestyles that reduce the risk of illness and the use of health facilities. Because of the number and variety of stakeholders involved – institutional, public, private – the theme is typically ‘supply chain’: that is, it involves many different professional cultures, from engineering to communication.
ADI Emilia Romagna, which every year dedicates a conference to the production chains, has chosen for 2020 a field that offers the world of design numerous opportunities to intervene: the design of health, from the aspects linked to the supply of pharmaceutical products to the design of equipment and the communication of prevention issues.
The term wellness is the key chosen to understand prevention, and the participants in the conference are public and private: companies that traditionally promote the culture of physical exercise (Technogym, the first to spread the term wellness) or engaged in the sector of healthy and conscious eating (Terra e Sole, Bio’s Kitchen); public bodies (Health Protection Agency of the Metropolitan City of Milan); foundations (Wellness Foundation) and obviously designers active in the sector.
The conference will be opened by a special guest: Jorge Frascara, professor emeritus of Alberta University (Canada), founder of the Health Design Network. After speeches by ADI president Luciano Galimberti and Kevin Bravi, president of Giovani Imprenditori di Confindustria Emilia Romagna, Valentina Downey (ADI Emilia Romagna territorial delegate) and Carlo Branzaglia (ADI General Department Coordination Committee) will coordinate the debate.
The conference is conceived by ADI, which confirms its interest in the health sector, where it promotes with AIRC the biennial competition Design helps to heal for young designers. The meeting is organised by ADI Emilia Romagna with the collaboration of the ADI General Department, and has the patronage of Confindustria Emilia Romagna. This is the third appointment in the “Design in the supply chain” series, which in previous editions dealt with ceramics and the ice cream industry. The conferences describe the role of design in this context, which has increasingly shifted from the generation of products and services to the facilitation of entire production processes, under the dual aspect of the “narrow supply chain” (the chain of suppliers for the material production of objects) and the “wide supply chain” (associations, training, publishing).
