The international studio DAAA Haus – with offices in Malta, Milan and Ragusa – on the occasion of its 15th anniversary, unveils its latest project: Park Heights.
The building, in addition to housing a small four-star hotel with 36 suites, a fitness centre, a cafeteria, and a rooftop bistro lounge bar with swimming pool, becomes the new ‘haus’ for the studio, dedicating two floors of the building to its staff.
Park Heights is located just a few minutes from the Maltese capital, in the dynamic crossroads between the university campus and a lively skatepark, which attracts young enthusiasts and even the merely curious. Thus, drawing inspiration from the bubbly Berlin atmosphere and the studio’s affinity for the iconic Bauhaus era, DAAA Haus realises an architectural project that celebrates the island’s youthful and trendy spirit.
The angled exterior architecture immediately draws attention to the building with its black and white stripes creating a visual illusion that makes it appear larger than its actual size.
This optical play pays homage to the Bauhaus movement, while establishing Park Heights as an important landmark for the entire neighbourhood.
Upon entering Park Heights, one is greeted by clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic that conveys comfort and warmth.
The design is based on a harmonious balance between open spaces and intimate, cosy corners, resulting in a wide variety of environments, specifically designed for the different activities that are concentrated within the building.
Natural light floods the interiors through large windows, further enhancing the sense of openness and connection with the surrounding urban environment.
The choice of materials reflects a clever blend of modernity and sophistication.
Elegant finishes such as concrete floors, terrazzo and white walls contribute to a minimalist aesthetic and instil a sense of cleanliness in the rooms.
At the same time, wood finishes are strategically incorporated, adding a touch of natural warmth and creating a cosy ambience.
Park Heights testifies to DAAA Haus’ ability to fuse architectural vision with a deep understanding of its surroundings.
Keith Pillow, the firm’s founder and creative director says: “Design is a powerful way of living, a way of life, it is an expression of the experiences that shape our social character. Over the past fifteen years, this approach has resulted in ambitious projects such as Park Heights”.
