Designed by Spanish architect Carlos Egea López, Casa Albanchez is a refined private residence in Albanchez in Almería that makes discreet elegance its signature style. The building’s contemporary architectural language is defined by the careful study of spaces and volumes adapted to the unique topography and vegetation of the plot, coordinated with a rigorous selection of local materials.
The lighting, both indoor and outdoor, has been carefully designed by BIG Architectural Lighting and provides a counterpoint to the architectural dialogue established by the full and empty spaces. Translated onto the lighting plane, this concept is rendered thanks to the calibrated control of the paradigms of light and shadow. For this important intervention, the studio chose Performance iN Lighting, a company through which it was able to develop and study the most suitable solutions.
To enhance the finishes of the stone materials, warm light luminaires were chosen to illuminate the surfaces. In this context, QUASAR 20 single-emission wall-mounted LED luminaires provide general lighting for the spacious terrace. INSERT+ 1 and INSERT+ 2 high-protection wall recessed luminaires illuminate and secure the perimeter walkways, and thanks to their minimal protrusion they blend discreetly into the architectural surfaces. LANTERNA NK, an outdoor wall light with a painted die-cast aluminium frame and pressed glass diffuser, on the other hand performs the archetypal function of signalling the entrance.
The flooring of the building is made in one continuous solution between interior and exterior, allowing better accessibility to all spaces of the house. In this way, the building fits naturally into the surrounding landscape, leaving the glass walls to act as a diaphragm defining the spaces.
