The Podernuovo Winery, designed by the Roman Alvisi Kirimoto studio and created in 2013 for Paolo and Giovanni Bulgari represents a highly concentrated synthesis of rationality and efficiency yet still with a focus on nature. If the job of architecture is to insert human activities into a natural setting, this winery can be interpreted as a building that has achieved total integration between design and landscape, according to an unequivocally contemporary language.
Tracing an exact sign and harmonizing it with nature using colour and transparencies, letting it take root thanks to the geometry of straight, solid cement with varying shades and hues that seem to be brushed onto the surface and with multiple examples of clarity that like successive theatrical backdrops articulate the perception of longitudinal permeability. Maintaining coherence in the character of the architectural elements is a synthetic and perhaps apparently simple concept but one which once applied reveals an acute sense of intuition.
Thanks to this intuition, the project has been selected for numerous awards including the Premio Architettura Toscana (Tuscany Architecture Prize) and the International Prize for Sustainable Architecture and is one of the projects selected for the “Arcipelago Italia.
Progetti per il futuro dei territori interni del Paese” as part of the 16th Venice Architecture Biennial while Massimo Alvisi was part of the Scientific Committee that focused on supporting research into the identification of strategic areas for the revitalization of Italian inland areas and which was at the heart of the curatorial route through the Italian Pavilion.
