Between city and waves

In the landscape of contemporary Italian architecture, the renovation project of 667 apartment in Genoa, designed by AGL Architects, stands out for its refined synthesis of modernity and tradition. Located in an urban context that still bears traces of its rich history, the intervention demonstrates a design approach that enhances the past by integrating it into a contemporary vision of domestic space.

The apartment, located in the heart of the city, is housed in a historic building that retains the charm of Genoa’s urban fabric. The designers chose to respect the pre-existing identity, carefully working on the original architectural features such as high ceilings, decorative moldings, and openings that frame views of the city’s sky and sea.

The renovation is based on a reinterpretation of interior spaces to meet the needs of contemporary living. The apartment’s layout has been reorganized around the principle of spatial fluidity, fostering a constant dialogue between the various functional areas while playing with the different heights of the domestic spaces.

The space is defined by large windows that frame the surrounding landscape. Walls painted in warm tones create a backdrop for lighting designed to enhance both the original architectural elements and the newly introduced features.

The project stands out for its use of warm, contrasting colors that enliven the interiors, creating a welcoming and enveloping atmosphere. These tones blend with the natural light streaming through the large windows, establishing a vibrant interplay of shadows and reflections. Light, in fact, is not merely a technical element but becomes an integral part of the spatial experience.

Open yet fluid spaces offer a seamless transition between the various areas of the home. The passageways are designed to be harmonious, while rest areas invite a slow, pleasant rhythm of life. These thoughtfully designed places become ideal spots to observe the harbor landscape, creating a unique connection between the interior and the surrounding urban context. The apartment thus serves as a filter between the city and the waves—a calm, meditative space that opens itself to the complexity of Genoa’s landscape.
