The Andrea Aprea Restaurant has opened in the setting of the historic Milanese Palazzo on Corso Venezia, dating back to 1871 and now home to the Luigi Rovati Foundation and its Art Museum. Located at no. 52 Corso Venezia, on the top floor of the Palazzo, the restaurant was designed by Flaviano Capriotti Architetti, who also oversaw the design of the Caffè Bistrot overlooking the secret green courtyard.
The design of the restaurant brings together in an aesthetic framework all the values of the gastronomic experience that Chef Andrea Aprea has defined in his twenty years of research.
The ambience is characterised by a space of great scenic impact, where a surprising panoramic window opens its gaze onto the Porta Venezia park and the city skyline.
The large central room of the restaurant is characterised by walls covered with bucchero ashlars – the characteristic black ceramic used by the Etruscans to make their vases – made to a design, which Capriotti wanted to create a line of continuity with the Art Museum that houses an important collection of Etruscan artefacts.
A spectacular circular chandelier in Murano glass and gold leaf – made to Capriotti’s design by Barovier&Toso using the ancient “dew” process – punctuates the centrality of the room and dialogues with the slanting perspectives of the walls and ceiling that make the entire space a sort of proscenium for watching the haute cuisine at work.
The restaurant space allows you to look in two directions: on the one hand, the creative act of preparing the dishes can be observed through the large glass wall that separates the kitchen from the dining room; on the other hand, the gaze expands from the “Indro Montanelli” public gardens of Porta Venezia to the symbolic buildings of Milan, such as the Museum of Natural History, Piero Portaluppi’s Planetarium, the Rasini Tower by architects Ponti-Lancia, and finally embraces the contemporary architecture that has redefined the city’s skyline.
