Casa Na Romeira, located on the outskirts of Romeira, in Santarém, is a project by dp arquitectos that stands out for its profound connection with the surrounding landscape. The home, more than a simple building, is configured as an existential place, humanised and concrete, shaped by living and structured with meaning and purpose.
The house is organised by enhancing the visual alignments on the territory, in an urban and landscape perspective, at the same time taking itself as a possible visual reference.
Its access is not direct and immediate from the public road, but hidden. Going around the small hill on which the house stands, one goes up the side of a small scrub of holm oaks that has been completely preserved. This creates a deliberate distance that ensures privacy from everyday use and the obligation to make an approach path. It allows for visual apprehension of the building before reaching the entry point.
The aggregation of several spaces contained in volumes is designed. Each with its own identity and programmatic function, defined by its different topological attributes.
The idea of fragmentation of the whole is elaborated into a sum of autonomous or interconnected spaces, integrating contemporary aesthetic and constructive aspects.
The volume obtained seems to diminish in the dematerialisation of the total mass of the building into several elements of smaller volume.
The inheritance of certain formal themes inspired by the Portuguese rural landscape is valorised, with particular reference to the buildings known as ‘montes’, erected in places dominating the landscape and formed by sets of volumes positioned informally.
