Designtech, the Hub for technological innovation in the design sector opens its doors at MIND – Milano Innovation District, the most important technological innovation district currently being developed in Europe, which aims to create a sustainable city of the future, where innovation is generated collaboratively for the benefit of communities.
Designtech aims to bring businesses together with innovative start-ups to design solutions that will improve and revolutionize the way we live. It plays a role as a synthesis between design and technological innovation, acting as a bridge and cultural mediator between companies aimed at the world of design and the new generation of digital entrepreneurs, creatives and designers looking to the future from Milan.
Designtech was created on the initiative of Ivan Tallarico, founder and CEO of Hi-Interiors, and a group of entrepreneurs and professionals with complementary experiences, which is why it is positioned as the innovation hub that supports companies operating in the furnishing, construction, architecture and real estate sectors.
The infrastructure that makes up the hub is designed, built and managed directly by Designtech to foster open innovation dynamics, startup acceleration, business creation, rapid prototyping and testing of new products and services.
The Hub inaugurates its first location in MIND, Milan’s innovation district where the new frontiers of technology and life sciences, research, education and culture converge, offering a range of innovation spaces and services dedicated to the community made up of start-ups, companies and professionals from the design industry in the Village Pavilion.
The first co-working space, with adjoining events space, is the result of the collaboration with Lombardini22 as design partner and with the developer of the area Lendlease, a leading international real estate group in the infrastructure and regeneration of urban areas, which has been granted a 99-year concession by Arexpo SpA for the development area that was once the site of Expo2015.
For Designtech DEGW, the Lombardini22 group brand dedicated to the workplace, designed a workplace, on the first floor, and an experimentation space conceived as a showcase of prototypes, materials and innovative products, on the ground floor.
In addition to designing the interior design for the ground floor, where functions related to the Designtech Hub and the Marketing Suite – such as the reception, the kitchen and a meeting room – coexist, DEGW developed the layout of the first floor, where Designtech’s coworking area is located, and selected and coordinated, together with Hi Interior, the projects of the start-ups and companies that furnish and characterize the pavilion.
Two other brands of the Lombardini22 group also collaborated on the project: FUD, which took care of the MIND Marketing Suite project and studied the graphic solutions that integrate with the architectural and technological design, and DDlab, which dealt with the parametric modelling of a surface with acoustic properties that characterizes the Lendlease space.
Within the Designtech spaces, the Feel@Home food innovation project also comes to life, the format designed to be the protagonist within newly conceived meeting spaces, which starts from the concept of experiencing the moment of sharing food as it was originally, but rethought in a modern key. In Paolo Barichella‘s project, realised in collaboration with Alberto Scavolini, CEO of Ernestomeda, an Ernestomeda kitchen model, specially designed for the project, therefore finds its perfect place.
In the approximately 30 square metre area on the ground floor of the Hub, a kitchen has been installed consisting of a fully functional and equipped Icon island on which quick meals can be prepared.
The space, which requires the presence of only one assistant operator to function, allows the public to self-manage mealtimes, preparing first courses (about 20 recipes) in just a few minutes by purchasing the Ultimo Tocco Gourmet SmartBOX (already selected for ADI Index 2020), designed by Paolo Barichella and Mauro Olivieri, from the showcase fridge.
